Disney Society’s Exclusive Interview with Tiffany Thornton
Written by Caleb | October 08 2009 | 1 Comment

I have to say, that Tiffany Thornton is on the top of my list of favorite people I have interviewed. She was fun, so down-to-earth, has a heart of gold and I could tell that she loves life and loves what she is doing.

I spoke with her last month since she is featured on the “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs: Diamond Edition” Blu-ray, singing “Some Day My Prince Will Come” and in the music video. The video is great! She sounds amazing, looks amazing and I think Disney made the right choice in choosing Tiffany Thornton for this song.

We chatted about Sonny with a Chance, Snow White, her music and so many other things. Here’s Tiffany!

Disney Society: How did you get started in acting?

Tiffany: I went to a big competition called IMTA a few years ago and that’s how I met my agent, who I am still with.

Disney Society: What was your very first job?

Tiffany: My first job was a national Singular Wireless commercial. Yeah, it was a long time ago.

Disney Society: Sonny with a Chance is a BIG DC hit! Tell me about landing the role as Tawnie.

Tiffany: I auditioned for it. It was actually a pretty quick process for me. I think they had been looking to fill that role for awhile and they brought me in last minute. Originally they had the character at 14, so they wrote the character a little bit older towards the ends of the process, since they weren’t able to find anyone. So, I auditioned on a Tuesday, got a call back on Thursday, did a table read on Friday and started Monday morning with filming the pilot. So, for me it was a pretty quick process.

Disney Society: How are you and Tawnie alike and how are you different?

Tiffany: Well, Tawnie is very brave and bold and she tells everyone how she feels and doesn’t hold back. I tell people how I feel. I am very honest with my friends. So we have that in common, but Tawnie doesn’t really know when to not say things and I do know how to do that. So, we are different in that way. And she likes to put together a bunch of different colors…too much color I think. That’s really not my personal taste. I don’t wear that much color at one time.

Disney Society: You have some amazing lines as Tawnie. They are so funny!

Tiffany: Thanks! We have some amazing writers from Saturday Night Live and our executive producers have done so much. We are very fortunate to have such great people behind us.

Disney Society: What is a day on the Sonny with a Chance set like?

Tiffany: Wow, we have been on hiatus for so long I can barely remember! We go back on November 9th and go until March. You know, it’s a lot of fun on our show. There aren’t really that many adults, so it’s basically a lot of kids when we are filming and when we’re not filming. But it’s nice and I am really close with all of my cast members…Demi [Lovato], she’s like my little sister. Brandon and Doug are like the brothers. And Alliysn is super intelligent and they are just great. It’s great to work with people that you love being around.

Disney Society: What is your favorite episode?

Tiffany: There’s just so many. I guess my favorite on that we have filmed so far would have to be “Sonny in the Kitchen with Dinner”. We just had so much fun filming that.

My friend Robert Adamson, who played Hayden, was in this one…he was actually in Princess Protection Program with Demi, so she already knew him. It was just a really, really fun episode and I think it turned out pretty funny. That’s when a camaraderie started to build between Sonny and Tawnie on that episode, so that was good to see.

Disney Society: Let’s talk about the “Someday My Prince Will Come” Music Video for Snow White. How did you get the honor
of being involved in this project? The video is great and you have a gorgeous voice!

Tiffany: Thank you! I had done Hatching Pete, the music video for “Let It Go” and so that’s when Disney approached me about recording some music…that song was more rapping and a getting you out of your seat kind of thing. It was a lot of fun, but it really didn’t showcase my voice.

I also have a song “If I Never Knew You” which is on Disney Mania 7, which is coming out soon. I guess I impressed them enough and they asked me to do another song and it ended up being “Some Day My Prince Will Come”. I didn’t even know the music video was attached when I originally signed on, or how big it would be. And then, after I did it, it hit me that I was the one they picked to do this DVD, Blu-ray set that comes out.

You know, Snow White was the first Disney Princess ever, so it was such an honor. I think it is still sinking in what an honor it is. It’s just awesome.

Disney Society: What do you enjoy about recording a music video?

Tiffany: It is so different from working on a television show. You hear the song…like 50,000 times and it was a night shoot for that [Let It Go] video. So, we started at 7 pm and finished at about 8 am the next morning. That was pretty crazy! I came home and slept until 5 I think.

With the video for Hatching Pete, it was completely different because it was all shot on a green screen. The parts where you see us walking in that video are actually shot on a treadmill.

In the Snow White video was just me and it was cool because they played the song, and I had no idea they did this, at double and quadruple the speed it really is originally and you sing along with it really quickly. Then they slow down the shot to give it that feel. It was really weird, but amazing. I had no idea they did that kind of stuff, but I guess it’s pretty common in music videos.

Disney Society: Who is your favorite Disney Princess?

Tiffany: My favorite is Aurora, from Sleeping Beauty. I have just always loved that movie and thought she was so beautiful. I wanted to be just like her.

Disney Society: I think people kind of forget her sometimes!

Tiffany: I know! And they call her Sleeping Beauty and don’t really know that her name is Aurora.

Disney Society: Since you are involved with the Snow White Blu-ray release, can you tell me who your favorite dwarf is?

Tiffany: I like Dopey, he’s pretty cute.

Disney Society: Do you have any other upcoming projects you can tell us about?

Tiffany: I do! On September 22nd, the Tinker Bell and the Lost Treasure soundtrack came out and I have a song on there, so does Demi [Lovato]. The song I sing is called Magic Mirror.

I am also going to be in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Parade. So that’s really cool. I get to do a duet with Kermit the Frog.

I will also be in the Miami Thanksgiving Parade singing a few Christmas songs. And I have been working on my own music and will hopefully put out a record someday soon.

Disney Society: Can you name an actress or two who you look up to?

Tiffany: I love Kristen Chenoweth. I think she is absolutely adorable and amazing as Glenda in Wicked. I just think she’s amazing.

I also look up to Reba McIntire. She just has this great presence about her, even in interviews and she’s had such a successful career. She’s so great at being good to her fans and keeping that clean image.

I also love Kelly Ripa. I want to be her. So, if I could combine all of them and become that, that would be perfect.

Disney Society: Here are some questions from your fans.

Disney Society: What’s one beauty product you don’t leave home without?

Tiffany: Definitely lip gloss! I have about 5 that I keep with me…and every brand you could imagine like Smash box, Christian Dior and several others that I keep in my bag at all times.

Disney Society: Favorite color?

Tiffany: I used to always say pink, but I am starting to think it’s not my favorite color anymore. I think it’s actually blue. My room is blue…I wear blue a lot, so I think that blue might actually be my favorite color.

Disney Society: Celebrity Crush?

Tiffany: I think James Franco is good looking and attractive.

I actually love sports and was watching a Florida State game ESPN the other day and their quarterback, Christian Ponder, he is so hot. I think he has a girlfriend, so I don’t want to offend her…but I am just like ‘Way to go girl!’

Disney Society: Favorite movie?

Tiffany: I have so many favorite movies. I am actually kind of like a guy when it comes to movies…I mean I do like movies like “My Best Friend’s Wedding” but I also love like “300″, “Men of Honor”….I love Robert De nero and Al Pacino. I have a pretty crazy collection of movies that I have.

But I also love to watch old Disney movies if I am at home sick. They just make me feel better and remind me of when I was a little kid. I would say that Peter Pan is probably my favorite Disney movie, but I also love “Willy Wonka” and “Ratatouille”…those have become two of my favorites also.

Disney Society: Where do you see yourself in 10 years? That’s a big question…I know!

Tiffany: Maybe married…I don’t know! Career wise I’d like to still be making music and maybe have a talk show….not like a Tyra Banks Show where it’s my own, but something like Kelly Ripa.

But also, I am the kind of person who if I worry too much about the future, I don’t live in the here and now. I just feel so blessed to be on an amazing show, with incredible friends and in this industry. I am just trying to live in that moment and just leave it up to God to take care of me and figure out where I am going to be in 10 years.

It was great talking with you Tiffany!
