Tiffany Thornton: Disney Support System

Celebrities are in the spotlight and people look up to us, but at times people can say very hurtful things. We’re not super-human, and things can hurt our feelings. I recently I took a Twitter break because fans say really mean things on there. I don’t know why Miley Cyrus doesn’t have a Twitter any more, I’m not sure why, but I think that the fans need to understand that we’re human too, and if you don’t like us, if you don’t like my music or if you don’t like the way I act, that’s totally fine. I don’t expect everyone to like me. I don’t expect everyone to think that I’m talented in certain areas. People have different tastes. But keep it to yourself. If you’re going to put out energy towards something, put out energy for something positive or don’t put it out at all, because all it does is tear other people down.

There’s days when I call Demi Lovato and I’m crying and I’m like, “Listen, this fan said something that was just really rude.” And she’s like, “I know. It happens to me all the time and there’s just people out there that do that.” It does come with the territory. We expect it, but I’m lucky to have people like Demi in my life and Selena Gomez and Miley Cyrus and friends that go through the same thing that I can talk to about it, and they can give me advice and vice versa.

Tiffany Thornton Embracing Her New Stardom
Written by Caleb on May 2nd, 2009

A new name is poised to join the ranks of Disney megastars: Tiffany Thornton, better known as teen queen Tawni Hart on the Disney Channel’s Sonny with a Chance.

When it comes to adjusting to life in Hollywood, some well-connected friends are helping out, including costar Demi Lovato. “Demi is beautiful and talented,” Thornton tells PEOPLE. “She’s a busy, busy girl. She and I have grown really close, like sisters, over the process of being on the show together.”

Thornton, 23, also thinks the Jonas Brothers, set to debut on their own Disney Channel show soon, are “such sweethearts. They’ve been raised to be so respectful, and they love their fans.”

Jonas Brothers’ Premiere

How would she know? The lucky actress got to hang out with the hot trio when she hit the red carpet for the first time at the premiere of Jonas Brothers in 3-D. “It was an honor to share the carpet with them,” she says.

Hailing from College Station, Texas, Thornton realized at the Jonas premiere just how big she’d become. “I had never had a moment where I’m walking across the street and someone yelled my name and people started screaming. That’s never happened to me before!”

She better get used to it, because Sonny is a hit. Keeping things in perspective – and starting her own her own Twitter account, therealTiffany – she says, “There’s pressure any time you’re in the spotlight. There [are] days when it’s hard. I try not to read comments online. But there are more days when it’s amazing. The support we get from people is overwhelmingly a blessing.”

Newfound fame: Blessing or curse?
