Tiffany on Disney’s Sing It Pop Hits
Written by Caleb on October 22nd, 2009

Disney Interactive Studios just released Disney Sing It: Pop Hits earlier this month and JJJ was lucky enough to chat with Tiffany Thornton, who hosts the Sing It Pro feature, to chat about the game.

The 23-year-old Sonny starlet dished to us on her warm-up routines, having her songs on the game on day and the super-cool features on the game. Check it out below and be sure to check back soon for a special giveaway!

On the Sing It Pro mode and exercises on the game: “On the game, there’s a lot of great ways that you can warm up. It’s in the expanded mode and there’s a part called Sing It Pro. You learn how to harmonize and breathing as well. It’s actually a great tool. It will get you hitting the notes in your range and get a chance to practice your breathing. It also helps you get ready before you get ready before you go onto the songs. But most importantly, it’s going from the low notes to the high notes to make sure you’ve gotten warmed up. It’s a real person there, myself (laughs). There’s no avatars or cartoon figures. It’s me — you’re hearing me talk and telling you how to do certain things. It’s cool because it gives kids something to relate to.”

On vocal exercises that she uses: “I use a lot on the Sing It Pro. Sliding is also a great exercise, it’s great to warm up your voice so you can keep it smooth. Reminding yourself of the harmonies of certain notes is important because a lot of times as singers — we do our own harmonizing and our songs. So warming up is very important.”

Interview: Tiffany Thornton
Written by Caleb on October 9th, 2009

Disney star Tiffany Thornton sings the classic “Some Day My Prince Will Come” on the spectacular new release of Disney’s very first animated feature, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. It is a two=DVD set with both Blu-Ray and regular DVDs and a lot of extras, including a sneak peek at the upcoming “Princess and the Frog.” I got a chance to talk to Tiffany about what it feels like to take on a song that is so well-known.

How did you get involved with this project?

I did the song “Let it Go” for “Hatching Pete,” but I was more rapping, and then I did a song for DisneyMania called “If I Ever Knew You,” and I hope I impressed them enough that they were willing to give me the opportunity to do this, and they flew out a producer from Nashville named Mark Hammond who was incredible to work with. I’m blessed to have been given the opportunity. I love this song because it’s not like a techno twist which is what you do a lot of times when you want to amp up a song that was originally a ballad. It has the ballad but also a mid-tempo, almost an up-tempo feel when it kicks in, so I hope people will enjoy that.

This is one of the classic Disney songs. How do you make it yours?

Mark did such a great job reconstructing the song. I’m really going to give him all the credit. He knew how to bring my voice out, get it to sound ethereal and princess-like but also to sound also like myself. I’m from Texas so I have that country thing in my voice going on. And I do all the background vocals, the harmonies and all of that stuff.

What is the most fun thing about singing for you?

The honest of it, really. I love acting and singing so much and could never pick one. With acting it’s fun to pretend to be someone else and that’s awesome, it’s like playing dress-up. But with singing, it’s you, being vulnerable, putting this voice out there, knowing people may criticize you and ridicule you. Because people are like that with music. Music is very expressive for a lot of people. I went through a break-up a few months ago and I was listening to Taylor Swift saying “Were you in the room when we were talking about that? How do you know all those things?” Music is really close to my heart and I just want to make sure people can feel that when I sing.

And who besides Taylor Swift is on your iPod?

Demi [Lovato]’s album that just came out, Here We Go Again, is incredible. I listen to her song “Got Dynamite” every time I go to the gym. And “World of Chances” which she wrote with John Mayer is a great song. At my photo shoot yesterday I listened to a lot of Carrie Underwood. And I love James Morrison and The Script, Matt Nathanson. I love those gritty guy voices. And Sara Bareilles I think is amazing.

If you could do any Disney song next, what would it be?

“Once Upon a Dream” from “Sleeping Beauty.”

When did you know you wanted to be a performer?

From day one! We put on performances in my front yard. I was always wanting to be in the spotlight. I made up songs, I wanted to be a cheerleader.

I was super-into really powerful singers. My mom and I jammed out to BeBe & CeCe Winans, Celine Dion, Whitney Houston. I’m not a singer because I’m on a Disney show; I’m a singer because God gave me a gift and I want to share it with the world.

And so what’s next?

I’m going to be singing a duet with Kermit the Frog in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day parade!

Disney Society’s Exclusive Interview with Tiffany Thornton
Written by Caleb on October 8th, 2009

I have to say, that Tiffany Thornton is on the top of my list of favorite people I have interviewed. She was fun, so down-to-earth, has a heart of gold and I could tell that she loves life and loves what she is doing.

I spoke with her last month since she is featured on the “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs: Diamond Edition” Blu-ray, singing “Some Day My Prince Will Come” and in the music video. The video is great! She sounds amazing, looks amazing and I think Disney made the right choice in choosing Tiffany Thornton for this song.

We chatted about Sonny with a Chance, Snow White, her music and so many other things. Here’s Tiffany!

Disney Society: How did you get started in acting?

Tiffany: I went to a big competition called IMTA a few years ago and that’s how I met my agent, who I am still with.

Disney Society: What was your very first job?

Tiffany: My first job was a national Singular Wireless commercial. Yeah, it was a long time ago.

Disney Society: Sonny with a Chance is a BIG DC hit! Tell me about landing the role as Tawnie.

Tiffany: I auditioned for it. It was actually a pretty quick process for me. I think they had been looking to fill that role for awhile and they brought me in last minute. Originally they had the character at 14, so they wrote the character a little bit older towards the ends of the process, since they weren’t able to find anyone. So, I auditioned on a Tuesday, got a call back on Thursday, did a table read on Friday and started Monday morning with filming the pilot. So, for me it was a pretty quick process.

Disney Society: How are you and Tawnie alike and how are you different?

Tiffany: Well, Tawnie is very brave and bold and she tells everyone how she feels and doesn’t hold back. I tell people how I feel. I am very honest with my friends. So we have that in common, but Tawnie doesn’t really know when to not say things and I do know how to do that. So, we are different in that way. And she likes to put together a bunch of different colors…too much color I think. That’s really not my personal taste. I don’t wear that much color at one time.

Disney Society: You have some amazing lines as Tawnie. They are so funny!

Tiffany: Thanks! We have some amazing writers from Saturday Night Live and our executive producers have done so much. We are very fortunate to have such great people behind us.
